Compact Tractors
Compact Tractors are a smaller version of larger tractors designed for pulling or pushing special machinery or loads in a confined space, i.e., small farms, estates or construction sites. These smaller tractors can be used on farms, for building and road construction, and for specialized use in industrial plants, railway freight stations, and docks. Compact tractors are smaller versions of the much larger farming tractor manufactured by industrial giants like John Deere, Case, New Holland and Ford. With an attachment like a front end blade, bucket, hoe, or a mounted crane, these compact tractors become useful in many other industries for lifting things, digging holes and moving large amounts of dirt.

Choosing a Tractor |
|
Important Considerations:
Horsepower: Horsepower is what separates compact tractors from other larger tractors. Horsepower determines what the tractor can do, the kinds of accessories it can run, and how much it will cost. Choose a 25 hp tractor if you just want to mow the lawn, etc. Anything between 25 and 65 horsepower is enough for small farming duties. Choose 65 HP and above if you want a tractor capable of handling bigger jobs including tilling and baling hay. 200hp or more are for larger jobs including excavation, hauling, plowing and so on.
Four Wheel Drive: a four wheel drive is a necessity if you to plan on using a loader on the front of the tractor or if you have to go places where there is poor traction and getting stuck is inevitable, i.e., snow, muddy fields, marshes, swamps and wetlands.
Enclosed Cabs: protection from the elements is a plus with any tractor. An enclosed cab are great in extremely cold or hot weather. Enclosed cabs can be fairly simple, i.e., with only a heater, or totally tweaked out, with air conditioning, a stereo, and other comforts.
Hydrostatic Transmission: the hydrostatic transmission allows for clutch free operation and is pretty handy when you're not that comfortable with a manual transmission. They are more expensive and less powerful than a manual transmission. Save a little money and get more out your tractor and stick with a manual transmission.
Safety: look for tractors with rollover protection structures (ROPS), seatbelts and maybe an operator presence switch which will automatically shut the tractor off if no one is in the seat. These features can save your life.
Tires: look for tires that are appropriate for the job. There are tires designed for working in loose dirt, for heavy mowing and loader work, or can reduce damage when mowing finished lawns.
