Little Giant Ladder Systems
The Little Giant Ladder System is
an idea whose time has come. If you've ever worked a lot with ladders
as a painter, or in a warehouse or on a construction site, you know how
awkward they can be to work with. Of course, the aluminum or fiberglass
ladder of today is ten times better than the old wood ladders. They're
light, easy to carry and fairly easy to move around. This new kind of
ladder, however, adds something else to the mix that is so intriguing
that it is hard not to be impressed. The one thing that most ladders lack
is versatility. You can only use them for one thing and usually only in
certain situations. If you want to use it as a scaffold, and you only
have a step ladder, you have to go out and buy another type of ladder.
These ladder systems, (and the key word here is "systems") make
this a thing of the past. When you buy one of these ladders, you're not
just getting one ladder, but a whole set of ladders or an entire "system"
of ladders.
Versatility
How can you go wrong with 24 ladders in one ladder? It almost sounds
too good to be true. But when you click on the banner below and then choose
one of the ladder systems, i.e., try Type 1A, and scroll down to the bottom
of the page, you will notice that this ladder is really more than just
one ladder. Its adjustable, so you can use it on uneven surfaces like
a stairway, ramp or curb. It's made out of 6005-T5 aluminum, so its light
and extra tough. You can turn it into an extension ladder, a scaffolding
system, or use it as a 90° ladder which will allow you to get closer
to a wall. Whatever it is, this is definitely a multipurpose ladder.

Selecting a Little Giant Ladder
When you visit the site the first thing you should notice is that there
are three different systems to choose from:
Type 1A
Type 1AA
Type 1AAA
Type refers to the ladders load capacity
or how much weight a single rung on the ladder can bear. This is the only
difference between these three systems. The American National Standards
Institute defines the load capacity of each ladder and prints the information
on a safety label located on the leg of every ladder. So:
Type 1 has a capacity of 250 pounds
Type 1A, has a capacity of 300 pounds
Type 1AA, which supports up to 375 pounds.
Load Capacity
When you're trying to decide what load capacity you need, you should know
that these ratings don't refer to the maximum amount of weight that a
ladder can bear, but only what amount of weight a single rung on the ladder
can bear. It's a good idea to calculate your weight, or the weight of
the heaviest person to use the ladder, add the weight of any tools and
materials that might be carried onto the ladder and choose the ladder
with a load capacity that is a bit greater. Make it a lot more than your
weight and your tools and material, if you are working in a rugged environment
where there is bound to be a lot of stress on the ladder.
Cautions
While its easy to see that this system is really a multiladder, it's
kind of hard to see how it could be 24 ladders in one. For instance, how
it could be used as a step ladder where you would have a small platform
at the top to set your paint can? (When you're at the site, make sure
you click on the More Photos button to see some actual pictures
of the ladder at work) It's also hard to imagine that these ladders are
really as light as a standard aluminum ladder. Another concern is that
they might not be the greatest when it comes to how high they can extend.
Make sure you check the specifications listed with each ladder type especially
the ladder weight and Max extension height.
